| Marriage | 1 June 1940 | Canon's Daughter Weds in Warwick McDougall-Thompson Ceremony of wide interest is a marriage which was quietly solemnised in St. Mark's Church of England, Warwick, this morning. The bride was Miss Sheila Thompson and the bridegroom Mr. John McDougall. Eldest daughter of Canon Walter Thomp- son, rector of St. Michael and All Angels' Church of Englnnd, New Farm, and the late Mrs. Thompson, the bride' took a leading part in student activities while at the University, and afterwards joined the teaching staff of St. Catherine's School, Warwick. Canon George Neal officiated at the ceremony this morning, and the bride was given away by her father. Like the bride groom, who is the elder son of Mr. and Mrs. A. S. McDougall, Warwick, the bride was unattended. The bride wore a frock of airforce blue heavy silk, the bodice of which featured a square yoke and was piped with white, matched by a spray of white flowers. The sleeves were three-quarter length, and the bodice had a tiny button finish. The skirt was full, and finished with a bustle bow. A navy felt hat and- navy accessories were added, and she carried a bouquet of blue delphiniums and narcissi. The reception was held at the National Hotel, where members of the family and close personal friends were entertained. Miss Jeanette Thompson, sister of the bride, acted as hostess. She wore a navy blue tailored woollen ensemble, relieved by a white collar and white piping on the bodice. Her navy hat was trimmed in white. Mrs. McDougall (mother of the bridegroom) wore a navy hat and navy edge to edge coat over a grey ensemble. The bridegroom is In the A.I.F., and when he leaves for overseas the bride will continue to make her home in Warwick. | Warwick, Queensland, AustraliaG |
