| Immigratn | 31 July 1864 | THE QUEEN OF THE SOUTH. The Black Ball liner Queen of the South, Captain Purvis, sailed from Liverpool on the 31st July last, and crossed the Equator in long. ?? deg. W. on the 2nd September. She passed the meridian of the Cape of Good Hope on the 66th day out, in lat. 40 deg. 40 min. 8., on September 24. Cape Otway was sighted on the 21st October, the 82nd day out, and on the 29th of the same month she received the pilot off Cape Morton, after a very pleasant passage of 90 days. At the time of her leaving Liverpool she had on board 440 government immigrants, all of whom were under the medical superintend- ence of Dr. Goullett. During the passage a good deal of sickness appears to have prevailed among the passengers, as no less than 13 deaths occurred ; eleven were infants, and the other two adults, and in nearly all cases the deaths re- sulted from diarrhoea or dysentery. The high rate of mortality may perhaps have, in some measure been caused by the fact that the greatest number of the passengers are Lancashire operatives, a class of people who aro found to suffer more in health during a sea voyage than those of the southern portions of England. During the passage there were four births. The Health Officer, Dr. Purdie, accompanied by Captain Banks, visited the ship yesterday ; and as all the passengers were in good health, he passed her. They were accordingly brought to town in the iron schooner Salamander, which was towed up the river by the Diamond, s. They reached the depot at South Brisbane, at 9 p.m., yesterday.
