Richard John Thomas Clark

M, #2429, b. 12 March 1898, d. 27 June 1959

Family: Bessie Bindon (b. 2 November 1900, d. 22 February 1984)

Biography

  • born: 12 March 1898; Charters Towers, Queensland, AustraliaG; to Thomas Abraham Clark and Martha Fanny Dandy
  • Marriage: 30 March 1921; Bessie Bindon; St Alban's, Innisfail, Queensland, AustraliaG; CLARK-BINDON.

A very pretty wedding was solemnised at St. Albans Church of England on the 30th March at Innisfail. The contracting parties were Mr Richard Clark, eldest son of Mr and Mrs Thomas Clark, of Mosman Park, Charters Towers, to Miss Bessie Bindon, fourth daughter of Mrs R. Bindon and the late Mr R. Bindon, Of Flying Fish Point, Innnisfail. The church was crowded with friends of the young couple. The Rev. Lambton officiated. The bride entered the church on the arm of her brother, Mr J. Bindon, and carried a beautiful bouquet of eucharist, lilies and fern. She was gowned in ivory crepe-de-chene, trimmed with seed pearls and orange blossom, the skirt being draped with floating panels, and silk tassels. She wore a wreath and veil arranged mob cap effect which completed a very pretty bride. Miss Jean Bindon, sister of the bride, acted as bridesmaid, who looked dainty in a pretty frock of cream British silk, made panel effect, trimmed with silk fringe and wore a pretty hat of silk straw and forget-me-nots. She also carried a bouquet of roses and fern. The bridegroom's gift to the bride was a pretty pendant set with rubies and to the bridesmaid a pretty brooch set with aquamarines. The bride's gift to the bridegroom was a pair of gold sleeve links. The bridegroom was attended by Mr Hector McLeod. who performed the duties of best man. After the ceremony about 60 friends motored to the Bay to partake of the wedding breakfast, which was held at Mrs Scheu's restaurant. The verandahs were beautifully decorated with fern, flowers and bunting. A beautiful wedding bell was suspended over the happy couple and a three-tier cake decorated the centre of the table, and reflected great credit on Mrs Lindquist and Mrs Greer sister and friend of the bride. The presents were numerous end costly, including many cheques. The happy couple left by the S.S. Kuranda for Charters Towers, where they will in future reside. The bride travelled in a frock of saxe blue crepe-de-chene, and hat to match. "WELCOME HOME" On arrival at Charters Towers they were welcomed home at the residence of Mr and Mrs T Clark, by 50 to 60 friends, where music, singing, and games were indulged in. Miss L. Fletchett and Mr H. Kent gave some musical items, which were very much appreciated, not forgetting little Miss B Gayton, who played several pretty items. The tables were tastefully set out under the bush house, the centre being decorated by a three-tier cake and other eatables. Mr J.Western made a capable and amusing chairman and proposed the health of the bride and bridegroom, also the bridegroom's parents. Mr W. Matthews in a neat speech, said he was rather fortunate to be at the wedding in Innisfail and the reception at Charters Towers. The grounds were illuminated with Chinese lanterns, which gave a very pretty effect. The gatherlng was brought to a close at midnight by the singing of Auld Lang Syne, and wishing the happy couple long life and prosperity.
