Sydney Pilot's Tragic End in the Middle East Flying-Officer Donald Stanley Anderson, aged 27, the cherished only son of the late Mr. Stanley F. Anderson and Mrs. Anderson, residents of Chelmsford Avenue in Lindfield, met his unfortunate fate while engaged in active service. His absence had caused concern, and now, regrettably, it has been confirmed that he lost his life in the Middle East.
Mrs. Anderson has received a communication from the British Air Ministry delivering the sorrowful news of her son's passing. The message also conveyed that he was laid to rest with the utmost military honors on November 16th.
Having taken to the skies as a member of the Royal Air Force in England three years ago, Flying-Officer Anderson's aviation journey commenced with the attainment of his pilot's certification in Australia.
In the days preceding his tragic departure, Flying-Officer Anderson had been promoted to the esteemed position of acting flight-lieutenant. The official endorsement from the Air Ministry confirming this advancement was anticipated but had not been granted prior to his passing.
The engagement of Flying-Officer Anderson to Miss Rita Godsland, daughter of parents stationed in Cairo, was recently announced, adding a bittersweet note to this tale of valor and heartache. | 1 |
