Death	9 September 1953	The death of Mr. William George Skidmore, which occurred in the Wyalong District Hospital on the 9th instant, removes one of the oldest and most highly esteemed pioneers of the Wyalong goIdfields. Mr. Skidmore, who was 69 years of age, was born at Wollahra. In 1900 he went to Lucknow, where his father the late Mr. W. H. Skidmore, was engaged as mine manager for the Darby Wentworth Gold Mining Company. He came to Wyalong in 1902, and worked in the Junction and Briliant mines, which were at that time two of the more Important mines when this field was booming. In 1905 he married Miss Ethel Clark, and shortly afterwards returned to the Lucknow gold fields. However, two years later they returned to Wyalong,and. Mr. Skidmore was engaged in mining activities until 1917. He then became interested in the production of eucalyptus oil, and continued in this industry on a fairly extensive scale until he retired in 1950. In the early days, Mr. Skidmore was an active member of the Australian Labor Party,and assisted in the various campaigns which in those days were frequently bitterly contested. He was an able debater and was a member of the Literary and debating Society which functioned very successfully formany years. He was an alderman of the Wyalong Municipal Council for several terms. He was a man of high character and business integrity, and This cheerful and kindly disposition , won for him the esteem and high regard of many friends and acquaintances. A service was held In the Methodist Church, West. Wyalong, which was conducted by the Rev. Mr. Prltchard, of Ungarie (In the absence of Rev. T. H. Hanna). Afterwards, the large and representative funeral cortege proceeded to the Wyalong Cemetery, where the remains were interred in the Methodist portion.The Rev.Mr. Pritchard officiated at the graveside, and the mortuary arrangements were in the hands of Messrs R. and O.
