| Marriage | 10 January 1948 | http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article63057079 **WEDDINGS** **SMITH—ABERCROMBIE:** Saturday, January 10, 1948, was the date chosen by Joyce Jean, second youngest daughter of Mrs. and the late Mr J. F. Abercrombie, West End, Townsville, for her marriage to William John Alexander, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Smith, South Townsville, at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Wills Street, Townsville. Rev. W Moore officiated. The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her brother, Mr. J. J Abercrombie, to the strains of the "Wedding March" made a charming picture in a gown of off white cloque, featuring a high neckline, and long sleeves coming to a peak over the hand. The front, back and sleeves of the bodice were beautifully appliqued with lace. Tiny buttons and loops extended from the neck to the waistline at the back. A special feature of the frock was the huge bustle bow at the back, from which the skirt fell in graceful folds, forming a long train. The full length embroidered silk tulle veil, kindly loaned by Mrs. Ken Walker (Margate, Q.), was topped by a coronet of orange blossom and pleated tulle. The bridesmaid, Miss Mavis Abercrombie, chose for her frock white silver spot ninon, over satin, featuring a high gathered neckline, a sweetheart hip yoke edged with kilting, short sleeves also edged with kilting, and a very full skirt. A large white off-the-face hat was worn, trimmed with red velvet. The little flower girl, Alma Abercrombie, was frocked in white ninon over satin made similar to the bridesmaid's. She wore a large red velvet bow on the back of her hair. The duties of best man were carried out by Mr. Jack Smith, brother of the bridegroom. During the signing of the register, Miss A. Bradley sweetly rendered 'Because.' and 'My Prayer.' After the ceremony, a reception was held at St. Matthews lounge, where the guests were received by the bride's mother assisted by the bridegroom's mother. On leaving by plane for Eungella Range, via Mackay, where the honeymoon was spent. Mrs. W. Smith wore a frock of biscuit Grafton silk, beautifully embroidered in brown with which she allied brown accessories. | Townsville, Queensland, AustraliaG |
